PortScan is a simple tool which can quickly scan your system (or just a defined IP address range) to reveal any connected network devices.
The program is portable, and very easy to use. Just launch it, choose your scan type - ports, devices and so on - and any necessary parameters, like starting and ending IP addresses. Or just click "Scan" and wait for the report.
The report is surprisingly detailed. For any connected PCs, say, you'll see their IP address, network and host name, open ports and network shares, amongst other information. And when scanning for devices, PortScan uses a variety of techniques to retrieve all kinds of related information. It gave us the make and model of our router, for instance; its home page URL, MAC address, IP address, UPnP details and a whole lot more.
Elsewhere, a Ping tab also allows you to ping particular IP addresses or host names, and see basic statistics on the results.
And there's even a Speed Test tab which uses multiple servers to figure out your internet connection's upload and download speed.
That's not bad at all for a portable program under 600KB in size, then. And if you're ever involved in any kind of network diagnostics or troubleshooting then there's a good chance PortScan will be able to help.
